Abstract This study aims to identify factors contributing price fluctuations in artworks after an artist’s death. With access information on seller characteristics from a historical dataset of all art auctions that took place London between 1741 and 1913, we investigate how trading patterns network effects at affect sales prices. Following death, capture dynamic find prices decline by 7%. We attribute this the confluence non-strategic strategic effects, first frequent lack professional consultation secondly changes dealers posthumously. Our results highlight long-term influence those high valued art.
